Keep your Link Click shikishi prints vibrant and safe. Learn how to display, frame, and store Cheng Xiao Shi and Hua Cheng art boards with these practical care steps.
Quick Answer
To keep your Link Click shikishi prints looking their best, frame them with UV-protective glass, avoid direct sunlight, and store them flat in acid-free sleeves when not on display.
Why Shikishi Prints Need Special Care
Shikishi prints are art-board style collectibles printed on thick cardstock. Unlike standard posters, they can warp, fade, or get scuffed if handled without care. The ink and paper used are sensitive to light, moisture, and dust, so a little prevention goes a long way.
The Link Click series features character art like Cheng Xiao Shi and Hua Cheng in vibrant colors. Keeping those colors bright means treating the shikishi as a delicate art piece, not just a paper good.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Many collectors stick shikishi directly on the wall with tape or putty. That can leave residue, tear the paper, or cause the print to bend. Another mistake is placing them in high-humidity rooms like bathrooms or near kitchen steam. Moisture makes the cardstock curl and can create mold spots over time.
Step-by-Step Shikishi Care Routine
- 1. Choose the Right Frame: Select a frame with UV-protective glass or acrylic. This blocks most ultraviolet light that causes fading. A frame with a mat (a cardboard border) prevents the print from sticking to the glass and allows air circulation. A cheap frame without UV protection will let colors fade within months.
- 2. Handle with Clean, Dry Hands: Always wash and dry your hands before touching the shikishi. Oils and moisture from your fingers can leave marks or cause the ink to smudge. Better yet, wear cotton gloves when moving the print. Fingerprints on the paper are hard to remove without damaging the surface.
- 3. Display Away from Direct Sunlight: Place the framed shikishi on a wall that doesn't get direct sun, or use a spot with indirect light. Even with UV glass, strong sunlight can still cause gradual fading over years. A north-facing wall or a shaded shelf is ideal for long-term display.
- 4. Store Flat in Acid-Free Sleeves: If you rotate your collection, store unused shikishi flat in an acid-free polypropylene sleeve or archival folder. Never roll them up — that creates permanent creases. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from basements or attics. Rolling a shikishi even once can leave a bend that ruins the flat display look.
- 5. Dust Gently with a Soft Brush: When dusting a framed shikishi, use a soft, dry microfiber cloth on the glass. For an unframed print, use a compressed air duster or a very soft brush (like a makeup brush) to remove dust without rubbing the surface. Rubbing a dry cloth on an unframed shikishi can scratch the ink.
